American Mock Trial Invitational

The American Mock Trial Invitational invites qualifying high school students to compete against top mock trial finalists from all parts of our country May 18 - 20, 2008.

WHAT IS AMTI?

The American Mock Trial Invitational (AMTI) was established in May of 2006 by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers in order to permit high school state mock trial champions with weekend religious obligations to compete in a national forum. Last year the invitational was held at the New Jersey Law Center on the Douglass/Cook campus at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. In 2008 AMTI will take place at the new state-of-the-art Mecklenburg County Courthouse in beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina, Sunday evening, May 18, through Tuesday afternoon, May 20.

WHY ATTEND?

Why should state champions compete in the 2008 AMTI? The invitational is the only nationwide mock trial competition that permits more than one team to represent each state - as many as three of a state's top four high school championship teams are eligible to participate. A team consists of 7 to 10 students.

All contestants will receive certificates, suitable for documentation for college applications, acknowledging their participation.

In addition, AMTI does not interfere with weekend religious observance or proms, AP exams or Mother's Day. Contestants will have the opportunity to try a challenging case, enjoy a private dinner at and tour of the acclaimed Mint Museum of Art, and visit a premier outdoor recreation center outside of Charlotte. Participants will stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in uptown Charlotte, across the street from the county courthouse.

HOW MUCH IS THE REGISTRATION FEE?

The cost to register each team is $200. This includes complimentary:

  • continental breakfasts for teams and coaches on May 19 and 20;
  • hot buffet lunches for teams, coaches and guests on May 19 and 20;
  • orientation dinner for teams and coaches on May 18 (guests may purchase tickets);
  • private dinner and guided tour of the Mint Museum of Art for teams and coaches (guests may purchase tickets) on May 19;
  • bus transportation from the hotel to dinners/events on May 18 and 19;
  • AMTI souvenirs for team members and coaches; and
  • trial practice rooms for scrimmages on May 18.

Please join us this May in celebration of the spirit of inclusion that is so important to all of us.
